When Henry Ford decided to open the first Ford manufacturing plant outside North America in Cork City, Ireland was reeling from the effects of Easter Rising and headed towards civil war. In Europe the Great War was causing destruction and death on a scale never seen before. But from troubled beginings, Ford went on to become a massive succes story for Cork, building vehicles and supplying parts for Ford customers around the world, and offering employment to thousands of Corkonians until 1984. The last ever Model 'T', one of the most iconic early motor cars, rolled off the production line on Cork in 1927.
